205B A&S, Lansing Community College
6:30-8:00 pm

Bob Crawford - "Rumors of the demise of film have been exaggerated"

The Program: The emphasis, will be on the basics of composition, or how to look at the world from a different perspective. Admittedly, broad subjects, but I believe I have worthwhile material. To the right is an example of a photograph that I took of the World Trade buildings in the early 70s. At the time, it was still under construction.

About Bob: I worked in the film industry in New York City in the 60s, and was employed by the Instructional Media Center at Michigan State in the seventies. I have also worked in a freelance capacity as a videographer and still photographer since then. In addition, I have taught introductory courses in lighting and filmmaking at community colleges.

As far as we know, we're meeting at 205B A&S - directions below - but always check this page before each meeting as the program and location could change.

Note re hard drive failures: When we've discussed hard drive failures at the last couple of LAMALUG Q&A sessions, we were operating with nothing but anecdotal information from our own limited experiences and what we heard from others. I recently ran across the ultimate drive failure report, Failure Trends in a Large Disk Drive Population (242k PDF), a February, 2007 study of 100,000+ Google hard drives ranging in size from 80 GB to 400 GB over a period starting in 2001. It's fascinating technical reading, but it fails to identify the manufacturers or offer much in the way of guidance to consumers. Ed Noonan

Here's a cool way to make a donation to the American Red Cross.

dealmac Fundraiser: Buy these used Macs, 100% goes to Red Cross
As cheap as we are at dealmac, from time to time we find that we can't repurpose an old Mac. Instead of giving them away, we decided this year to eBay our spare Macs as a fundraiser for our local chapter of the American Red Cross. Although your bid won't be tax-deductable, it's for a good cause, so please bid as much as you can bear. 100% of the proceeds will go to our local Red Cross. We'll toss in a free dealmac T-shirt with each Mac. Auctions close March 19. The Macs on eBay:
Macintosh PowerMac G4 Dual 1.25GHz; and
Macintosh PowerMac G5 Dual 2GHz.
• Find out more about our local Red Cross, or visit RedCross.org for national information. -

Progress at LAMALUG: Starting with notice of our March, 2007 meeting, the LAMALUG mailing list is being managed through a program called Direct Mail and all mail is sent in both HTML and text format. The HTML version will look the same as this page complete with the graphics. The text version will load faster, but won't include graphics or formatting. Our future emails and Web pages are likely to include Flash graphics, audio and video and greater use of PDF, so a broadband connection will be more esssential. All mail from Apple and most other manufacturers is sent in the HTML format. Ed
LAMALUG BLOG? Do you think LAMALUG should implement a BLOG where members can interact with one-another? If so, would you want to manage it for us? Then please contact the board at lamalug dot org (sorry I didn't post a link, but we're getting too much spam email). Ed

As always, the first half hour of our membership meetings are devoted to Q&A, an opportunity to get all your Mac questions answered.
